A man is facing charges following a case of road rage in Longwood. The traffic dispute led to gunshots, according to police.

Thirty-year-old Steven Dungey faces charges of aggravated assault, shooting from a vehicle, and shooting into a vehicle.

Late July, a little after 6 p.m. on State Road 434 east of Interstate 4, two drivers got into it with each other.

"You're charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, without intent to kill," Judge John Woodard said.

“It was determined that one of those two parties fired two rounds in the direction of the other vehicle, which resulted in us getting involved," Cpl. Michael Hathcock of the Longwood Police Department said.

The victim actually admits it was he who got heated when he felt he was cut off, honking, yelling, gesturing.

Dungey said when he rolled down his window, it was the victim yelling, "Pull over and get your (expletive) beat."

Dungey told police the "(victim) grabbed a pistol magazine from his rear seat and held it up."

To the point Dungey got his gun, saying, "after he was shown the magazine, he feared for his life."

The victim told police it was Dungey who "fired several shots out his passenger window toward him approximately fifteen to thirty seconds later."

"One shot hit the front driver's side quarterpanel, and the other hit the driver's side front tire," Hathcock said.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, but police pointed out:

"It's extremely concerning, especially since one of the rounds hit a tire, causing it to deflate. If that individual had lost control of the vehicle, it could have caused a lot more damage and a lot more injuries," Hathcock said.

In the report, it's pointed out that from I-4 to Ronald Reagan Boulevard, there are any number of places where either driver could have turned off, ending the dispute.

"It's concerning that neither of these individuals chose to do that, and if they had, this situation may not have occurred," Hathcock said.

Taken to jail and held without bond, the judge did set total bonds of just under $40,000 during Friday afternoon court.
