Lafayette, La (KADN) The Lafayette Sheriff’s office arrested and charged Jarad Decuir with arson charges for intentionally setting a mobile home on fire at the 400 blk of Petite Rd. Residents near Petite rd. tells News 15 Decuir is also responsible for the field fire that took place approximately 100 feet from the home.

"He threw something inside of the trailer but we didn't know what it was. So then he was standing there, then said, 'I'm about to burn this trailer down'. He then took a Coors light Box filled with dry grass and threw it inside of the trailer and set it on fire,” said Richard Comeaux.

Lafayette fire department spokesman Alton Trahan says Decuir is related to the owners of the mobile home.

"We do know he is related to the owner of the and occupant of the mobile home. So, we're not quite sure what happened prior to him setting the home on fire but that's still a part of the investigation,” Alton Trahan.

Shortly after Decuir set the mobile home on fire, a nearby resident tells News 15 he ran to the nearby field and ignited a fire in the field.

"All those brown spots that's on that tree, that's how high the flames were. From the ground to the top, I say at least about 40 Feet high,” said Felton Comeaux.

Comeaux says once the field caught fire, the flames would eventually get across the street just feet away from his home.

Comeaux says, if it wasn’t for the quick responses from firemen he would have lost everything.

"I've never seen anything like this in my life. When I saw it jump from one side of the street to the other side, I just thought I was gonna lose everything like I did in 2016. When I saw flames and how high they were I said man I'm about to lose all this again,” said Felton Comeaux.
